Stressed Out????

By July 1, 2015 May 5th, 2016 No Comments

I know our pet’s are all completely spoiled and have no reason to be anxious or stressed yet it happens anyway, especially at this time of the year. There’s get togethers, thunderstorms, fireworks, children coming home from college or getting ready to leave for college, vacations. All of these things can just turn your pet’s whole world upside down. So what can you do to help your pet be a little less anxious? Here’s some easy non-medication alternatives to de-stress your pet.

Composure! This is a chewable “treat” like product made by Vetri-Science. It is an all natural way to help your pet relax. It contains things like C3 ( a colostrum calming bioactive protein), Theanine and tryptophan (yes, the stuff in turkey that makes you sleepy). Composure can be used every day or just as needed in times of stress. And because it is all natural there are no harmful side effects from the body having to process it.

There are diffusers that contain the pheromones specific to either dog or cat to help relax them when they are in their home. These diffusers are nice because they constantly provide these calming pheromones in the air so your pet has 24/7 relaxation pheromones around them. The canine one is call ADAPTIL and for felines it’s called FELIWAY. These also come in a spray for traveling and spraying the carrier for the cats.

Also, we carry a mixture of essential oils called “calming spray” and also “anxiety spray.” The difference is that the Anxiety spray has an additional ingredient in it for felines who tend to get stress cystitis (inflammation of the bladder).  The Anxiety Spray contains a blend of: spruce needle/leaf, ho wood, frankincense, blue tansy flower, blue chamomile flower, lavender, sweet marjoram, roman chamomile, ylan ylang, sandalwood, vanilla bean and juniper berry. For canines and felines who do not tend to get stress cystitis the Calming Spray is a great idea. This contains a blend of: spruce needle/leaf, ho wood, frankincense, blue tansy flower, blue chamomile flower, lavender, sweet marjoram, roman chamomile, ylan ylang, sandalwood, and vanilla bean. These are all made here in the clinic by the veterinarian.
